I love talking about parenting and helping parents gain more enjoyment in their relationships with their children (as well as feel more competent as a parent!) Between the books and “friendly” advice from family, friends and schools, it is hard to figure out the best way to parent. What I have learned is that there are many right ways to parent children. However, the most important thing is developing a strong relationship with your child/children so that they truly experience you as having their backs. Once this strong attachment is developed, many interventions work. I always ask myself and the parents I work with two question about the interventions they are using, 1. Does it work? and 2. Does it preserve the integrity of the parent/child relationship? If yes, great and if not, let’s chat! In addition to individual parent consultation, I am available to provide parenting workshops to community organizations and schools about parenting children from preschool age through adolescence. Please find a list of past and upcoming presentations below. I am happy to work with you to develop a workshop that meets the needs of your organization or school. To schedule a workshop, please contact me at slernermsw@gmail.com.
